Rom-coms you’ll swoon over
When you’re in need of a little escape, there’s nothing more delightful than romantic comedy movies. These sweet, funny movies generally have a happy ending, leaving you with feel-good vibes for the rest of the day. On top of that, they cross backgrounds and cultures, giving rom-coms universal appeal. While we love sweeping romances and sad movies, too, sometimes you just need everything wrapped up in a neat package.
There are actors and actresses who have literally made their careers out of starring in romantic comedy movies, like Meg Ryan, who just might be the queen of the genre. From Sleepless in Seattle to When Harry Met Sally…, Ryan’s characters search for love in ways that make us root for her every time. But wait—don’t forget about Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, and Drew Barrymore, who also make a few appearances on this list with some of our favorite leading men.
So, are you ready to fall in love over and over again? Cancel your plans for the day (and get some popcorn), because we’ve rounded up 50 of the best rom-coms of all time. To narrow things down, we took into account each movie’s staying power, box office numbers, and awards-show buzz around the time of release. Some of them are classics that qualify as the best movies of all time, while others are newer romantic movies on Netflix, but they’re all pretty darn perfect in all the right ways.
1. Sleepless in Seattle
Released: 1993
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “It was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together, and I knew it. I knew it the first time I touched her. It was like coming home, only to no home I’d ever known. I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew it. It was like magic.”
The big-screen pairing of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks is always a winner. Enter a cute kid who just wants to help his widowed father find love via a radio talk show and you have rom-com perfection. The film was even nominated for two Oscars and a number of other big awards.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and Netflix
2. Crazy Rich Asians
Released: 2018
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I’m not leaving because I’m scared, or because I think I’m not enough—because maybe for the first time in my life, I know I am.”
When you meet your boyfriend’s family for the first time and you find out they aren’t just rich but crazy rich, chaos and comedy are bound to ensue. Based on the best-selling book of the same name, Crazy Rich Asians transports viewers to another place, where the stakes are high but the love is strong. If you’ve never read the book, you should definitely pick it up, even if you typically stick to straight-up romance novels.
Available on: HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, DirecTV and Vudu
3. The Holiday
Released: 2006
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives.”
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to spend the day in someone else’s shoes, The Holiday explores that concept quite beautifully. Two women having very little luck with love swap homes (one lives in Los Angeles, while the other resides in England) only to discover exactly what each was looking for all along. It sounds like it could be the plot of one of the best dramas, but Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet keep things light and highly enjoyable.
Available on: Apple TV, DirecTV, Vudu and Amazon Prime
4. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Released: 2002
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “Let me tell you something, Toula. The man is the head, but the woman is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she wants.”
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a jubilant film that made audiences both want to be a part of the Portokalos family and appreciate that they are not. The story follows just what happens when a woman’s traditional Greek family tries to accept her non-Greek fiancé. While this one’s a classic after two decades, these are the best new comedy movies you’ll also want to put on your must-watch list.
Available on: Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu and HBO Max
5. When Harry Met Sally…
Released: 1989
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “A woman friend. This is amazing. You may be the first attractive woman I have not wanted to sleep with in my entire life.”
Sometimes the person you’re meant to be with has been right in front of you the entire time. When Harry Met Sally… is one of those romantic comedy movies that makes you believe in love over and over again. This oft-quoted favorite about two platonic friends who realize there might be something more to their relationship also happens to be a fantastic New Year’s movie.
Available on: Apple TV, DirecTV, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and Vudu
6. The Proposal
Released: 2009
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Hey, that’s no problem. I can do that. I can pretend to be the doting fiancé. That’s easy. But for you, that’s going to require that you stop snacking on children while they dream.”
When an emotionally unavailable bigwig at a publishing company faces deportation, she calls on her assistant to marry her to secure a green card. The chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds is perfect, as is the comedy the entire cast (including the amazing Betty White) carries throughout the flick.
Available on: Hulu, Vudu, Amazon Prime and Apple TV
7. Overboard
Released: 1987
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “These gnats keep landing on my wet nail polish. I guess I’m supposed to walk around with their little corpses stuck to my fingers, is that it?”
It’s always fun to watch real-life couple Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell team up on screen. In Overboard, they make an unlikely match when a wealthy woman suffers from amnesia and the handyman she hired (and cheated out of his money) decides to bring her home to his kids. While the premise may raise an eyebrow or two today (and even did back then), it’s still a classic ’80s movie that you can’t help but enjoy. Want a modern take on this classic? Falling For Christmas starring Lindsay Lohan has received some comparisons to the film.
Available on: Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu and HBO Max
8. Love Actually
Released: 2003
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “Sam, you’ve got nothin’ to lose, and you’ll always regret it if you don’t! I never told your mom enough. I should have told her every day because she was perfect every day. You’ve seen the films, kiddo. It ain’t over till it’s over.”
When you get not one but multiple love stories in one rom-com, it pretty much means it’s the best romantic comedy movie ever. Love Actually follows eight different people in various states of romance, with the Christmas season as a backdrop.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, DirecTV and Amazon Prime
9. The Wedding Singer
Released: 1998
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “You’ll know when you meet the right girl because it’s not how you feel about her—it’s how she makes you feel about yourself.”
Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler make an epic rom-com duo in this sweet love story set in the 1980s about a recently dumped wedding singer who falls for a woman who’s already engaged. What makes this flick extra sweet is that both leads are equally as romantic and appreciative of love. And you can’t beat the ’80s nostalgia, an original Adam Sandler song filled with quirky love quotes, and one very rockin’ cameo!
Available on: Sling TV, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu and HBO Max
10. The Big Sick
Released: 2017
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “Apparently, there are good and bad comas. And the kind that they put her in—the medically induced ones—are definitely the good kind of coma. Like, you know how there are good and bad carbs? Gremlins—those can be good or bad.”
Based on Kumail Nanjiani’s real-life relationship, The Big Sick follows a young couple through unexpected, heartbreaking illness. Ultimately, the comedy comes into play when Nanjiani has to deal with his love’s judgmental family while she’s in a medically induced coma. No, that doesn’t sound funny, but trust us— there are some brilliant lines in the film.
Available on: Vudu, DirecTV and Amazon Prime
11. Bridget Jones’s Diary
Released: 2001
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “But the thing is, um, what I’m trying to say, very inarticulately, is that, um, in fact, perhaps despite appearances, I like you, very much. Just as you are.”
For anyone who feels like they bumble at romance (and sometimes life), Bridget Jones is a hero. Based on Helen Fielding’s best-selling books, Bridget Jones’s Diary has it all, from comedy to love to friendship to, yes, a little heartbreak. Let’s face it: When Bridget sings “All by Myself,” she’s all of us at some point in our lives. Don’t miss these other hit movies based on books.
Available on: Paramount+, Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Vudu
12. My Best Friend’s Wedding
Released: 1997
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I’m a busy girl. I’ve got exactly four days to break up a wedding, steal the bride’s fella, and I haven’t one clue how to do it. He was in love with me every day for nine goddamn years. Me!”
It’s Julia Roberts at her best in this rom-com about a woman who decides she’s in love with her best friend just four days before his wedding. With a limited amount of time on her hands, she sets hijinx into motion in an attempt to win him over so he chooses her instead of his perfectly lovely fiancée.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu and Amazon Prime
13. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
Released: 2018
Rated: TV-14
Memorable Quote: “I always fantasized about falling in love in a field. I just never thought it would be the kind where you played lacrosse.”
Chock-full of absolutely everything involved in having a teenage crush, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before will take you way back to your first loves (even if they didn’t know you were in love with them at the time). Actress Lana Condor is perfection as Lara Jean, whose life is upended when the secret love letters she wrote to her crushes are made public. We think it’s one of the best movies on Netflix—romance or otherwise—and certainly one of the best teen movies in recent memory.
Available on: Netflix
14. Serendipity
Released: 2001
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Well, if we’re meant to meet again, we’ll meet again. It’s just not the right time now.”
Some things are just meant to be left up to fate. That’s exactly the motto Sara and Jonathan follow the night they meet, only to separate and continue thinking about each other years later. Will they reconnect? That would be serendipitous, wouldn’t it?
Available on: Paramount+, Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Vudu
15. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Release Date: 2003
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Guys, a woman’s purse, alright, it’s her secret source of power. Alright? There are many dark and dangerous things in there, that we, the male species, should know nothing about.”
This rom-com is a bit like a game of cat and mouse, with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey playing characters each with separate agendas in the game of love. While neither has the initial goal of actually finding “the one,” they may just end up enjoying each other’s company more than expected.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and Netflix
16. Love Don’t Cost a Thing
Released: 2003
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I made you, Al—I will work overtime to break you, Alvin!”
This early-aughts update on the ’80s movie Can’t Buy Me Love is full of all of the hilarity and sweet surprises romantic comedy movies bring. It’s the story of a nerdy high schooler who pays the most popular girl to pretend they’re dating, and the two learn a lot about each other in the process. This heartwarming flick will make you nostalgic for your teenage years and may also put you in the mood for the best teen TV shows of all time.
Available on: Apple TV, Amazon Prime, DirecTV and Vudu
17. Four Weddings and a Funeral
Released: 1994
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “The truth is…well, the truth is, I have met the right person, and he’s not in love with me, and until I stop loving him, no one else really has a chance.”
This may have been the movie that solidified our love for Hugh Grant. When a reticent Englishman keeps running into the same woman at weddings, where sparks admittedly fly, he needs to finally make a move or risk losing her to someone else.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and DirecTV
18. The Wedding Planner

Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Love can’t always be perfect. Love is just love.”
What happens when a wedding planner unknowingly falls in love with one of the grooms whose wedding she’s organizing? Only one of the best romantic comedy movies ever! Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey are adorable in this flick that puts destiny center stage.
Available on: Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu
19. You’ve Got Mail
Released: 1998
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “The odd thing about this form of communication is that you’re more likely to talk about nothing than something. But I just want to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings.”
Once again, you can’t go wrong with the pairing of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. In this meet-cute, the two main characters are looking for love online. Little do they know the person they’re each writing to is their enemy in business. You might laugh at how dated the tech is, but you’ll still fall in love with these two as they fall in love with each other.
Available on: HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu
20. Moonstruck
Released: 1987
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “Loretta, I love you. Not like they told you love is, and I didn’t know this either, but love don’t make things nice—it ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We aren’t here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us.”
Cher won the Oscar for Best Leading Actress for her role in Moonstruck, playing newly engaged Loretta Castorini. Wedded bliss may be out of Loretta’s reach when she falls for her fiancé’s volatile younger brother.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, DirecTV and Amazon Prime
21. Always Be My Maybe
Released: 2019
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I hope you have terrible karma and come back in the next life as a nasty little lizard and get stepped on by someone on a hike!”
Childhood friends Marcus and Sasha reconnect 15 years after having a falling-out. While everyone else in their lives thinks they are meant to be, the duo have to decide if they’re feeling sparks.
Available on: Netflix
22. Mamma Mia!
Released: 2008
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Typical, isn’t it? You wait 20 years for a dad and then three come along at once.”
For starters, anything that is set to the music of ABBA is a win in our book, and this is definitely one of the best movie musicals around. But endearing performances from Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried make this laugh-filled story of a bride-to-be desperate to find her biological father even more special.
Available on: Vudu, DirecTV, Apple TV and Amazon Prime
23. Roxanne
Released: 1987
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “Sometimes I take a walk at night and I see couples walking, holding hands, and I look at them and I think: ‘Why not me?’ Then I catch my shadow on the wall…”
Much like the titular character of Cyrano de Bergerac in the Edmond Rostand play, C.D. Bales isn’t your average romantic lead with his exceptionally large nose. When C.D., played by Steve Martin, falls for a beautiful scientist (Daryl Hannah), he conveys his feelings through a more classically handsome man. It’s that old “You can’t judge a book by its cover” adage.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, DirecTV and Amazon Prime
24. Can’t Hardly Wait
Released: 1998
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Fate! There is such a thing as fate, but it only takes you so far. Then it’s up to you to make it happen.”
Another rom-com that takes us right back to high school…or, in this case, high school graduation. When a graduating senior realizes it’s his last chance to tell the most popular girl in school how he feels, one memorable night takes some very strange turns.
Available on: Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu and HBO Max
25. Last Christmas
Released: 2019
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “One thing someone said to me helped me: ‘Every little action of the common day makes or unmakes character.’ It just means that you’re built of everything you do. And that’s OK.”
We love a rom-com with a surprise twist, and that’s just what you’ll find in Last Christmas. Aspiring singer Kate is somewhat of a mess. When she meets Tom, he turns her outlook around in more ways than one. If you’re a sucker for romantic Christmas movies, you need to watch this one.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and DirecTV
26. 10 Things I Hate About You
Released: 1999
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme.”
A take on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, this teen romantic comedy stars Julia Stiles and the late Heath Ledger as unexpected love interests. The film is so good, it was even adapted into a television series ten years after its theatrical debut.
Available on: fuboTV, Vudu, Hulu, Apple TV and Amazon Prime
27. Splash
Released: 1984
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “I don’t understand. All my life I’ve been waiting for someone, and when I find her, she’s…she’s a fish.”
It’s the classic love story: Boy meets girl. Boy finds out girl is a mermaid. Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah are absolutely adorable in this ’80s rom-com with some seriously memorable movie quotes, and you can’t help but root for them to figure out this whole human and amphibian thing.
Available on: Vudu, Amazon Prime, DirecTV and Apple TV
28. Boomerang
Released: 1992
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “What do you know about love? What could you possibly know about love? You know, I’m sick and tired of men using love as if it’s some disease you just catch.”
A slick bachelor gets a taste of his own medicine when he falls for the female version of himself. But maybe the right person is waiting in the wings, not far from where he gets his heart broken. This is a must-watch because it shows love from all sides, from the player to the true romantic, and how a character can go from being one to the other.
Available on: Hulu, Vudu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and HBO Max
29. Two Can Play That Game
Released: 2001
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “Have you ever noticed during spring—say, early summer—men start to act up a lil’ bit? Mmm-hmm, they do.”
When a successful woman who thinks she knows all there is about relationships meets her game-playing match, both parties have to decide if “winning” is worth it. This flick is as smart as it is funny, and despite the power struggle for control in a relationship, there’s plenty of romance, too.
Available on: Apple TV, DirecTV, Vudu and Amazon Prime
30. Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist
Released: 2008
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “It reminds me of this part of Judaism that I really like. It’s called Tikun Olam. It says that the world’s been broken into pieces and it’s everybody’s job to find them and put them back together again.”
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is a music lover’s dream. It has all of the lovey stuff plus a fantastic soundtrack. Not to mention there’s stellar banter between leads Michael Cera and Kat Dennings.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, DirecTV and Amazon Prime
31. Never Been Kissed
Released: 1999
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “All of you people, there is a big world out there. Bigger than prom, bigger than high school, and it won’t matter if you were the prom queen, the quarterback of the football team, or the biggest nerd in school. Find out who you are and try not to be afraid of it.”
When a newspaper reporter who was unpopular in high school decides to revisit her old stomping grounds for a story, posing as a teen, she gets to live the life she thought she always wanted. The only problem is that what she always wanted isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. You’ll alternately cringe, swoon, and cheer as Josie, our heroine, learn a valuable life lesson and falls for a seriously gorgeous teacher who is every bit deserving of her kindness and love.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and Hulu
32. Runaway Bride
Released: 1999
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “When I was walking down the aisle, I was walking toward somebody who didn’t have any idea who I really was. And it was only half the other person’s fault, because I had done everything to convince him that I was exactly what he wanted. So it was good that I didn’t go through with it because it would have been a lie. But you—you knew the real me.”
Each time Julia Roberts and Richard Gere team up on screen, an angel gets its wings. OK, maybe not, but these two are the definition of rom-com magic. Watching them puts a twinkle in our eye usually reserved only for personal crushes. In Runaway Bride, she’s—you guessed it—a bride who keeps leaving grooms at the altar, and he’s a jaded journalist reporting on her fourth attempt at a wedding. It’s fun to watch their relationship take a 180 from adversaries to adorable couple.
Available on: Paramount+, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu
33. Pretty Woman
Released: 1990
Rated: R
Memorable Quote: “Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.”
Prostitution and the seedy parts of Hollywood Boulevard aren’t typically what you think of when romantic comedy movies come to mind, but Pretty Woman manages to have it all. It was the first time we saw Julia Roberts and Richard Gere team up on screen, and the result was—and still is—pure magic. If you’re a film fanatic, see how many of these movie trivia questions you can get right.
Available on: fuboTV, Amazon Prime, Vudu, Apple TV and Hulu
34. While You Were Sleeping
Released: 1995
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “Do you believe in love at first sight? Nah, I betcha don’t—you’re probably too sensible for that. Or have you ever, like, seen somebody? And you knew that, if only that person really knew you, they would, well, they would of course dump the perfect model that they were with and realize that YOU were the one that they wanted to just grow old with. Have you ever fallen in love with someone you haven’t even talked to? Have you ever been so alone you spend the night confusing a man in a coma?”
When Lucy saves her crush (who doesn’t know she exists) from a near-fatal accident, she’s misrepresented as his fiancée and continues the charade while he lies in a coma. She just wasn’t planning on falling for his brother while she waits for her dream guy to wake up. Sandra Bullock is utterly charming in this film, and her chemistry with Bill Pullman is off the charts. It makes the romance in this unbelievable story both believable and aspirational.
Available on: Vudu, Amazon Prime, DirecTV and Apple TV
35. Meet the Parents
Released: 2000
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I love your daughter, Jack. I love her more than anything. But frankly, sir, I’m a little terrified of being your son-in-law. This whole weekend has given me a lot of doubts about whether or not I could even survive in your family. I think you’ve got some serious issues.”
Meeting your significant other’s family for the first time can be awkward. For Greg Focker, it’s downright terrifying. Robert De Niro’s antics in the film almost make it a scary movie that just so happens to be a rom-com. We love this film for putting our own in-laws in perspective, and for the idea of love conquering all.
Available on: Vudu, Amazon Prime and Apple TV
36. Clueless
Released: 1995
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on my feet.”
You could brush off Clueless as just another teen comedy, but there’s a lot of romance at play. For starters, Cher is desperate to fix up two lonely teachers. Then she wants to help her pal Tai meet a socially appropriate dude. But, in the end, everyone finds a little love in their loves.
Available on: Amazon Prime, Vudu, Apple TV and Paramount+
37. 13 Going on 30
Released: 2004
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I think all of us want to feel something that we’ve forgotten or turned our backs on because maybe we didn’t realize how much we were leaving behind. We need to remember what used to be good. If we don’t, we won’t recognize it even if it hits us between the eyes.”
Have you ever wondered what knowledge you’d impart on your younger self if you had the chance? In 13 Going on 30, Jenna Rink gets that chance. Among other things, one bit of advice would be not to overlook your best guy friend from childhood. He’s a keeper!
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and DirecTV
38. The Princess Bride
Released: 1987
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
So, yes, the grandfather narrating this movie is trying to convince his sick grandson that this is an adventurous tale, not a love story. However, it is, in fact, a rom-com with a lot of action thrown in the mix. And we just love a movie that touches on nearly every genre out there. It also happens to be a great family movie with so many memorable lines that even the littlest of kids will be quoting it before you know it.
39. Tootsie
Released: 1982
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “Ron? I have a name. It’s Dorothy. It’s not Tootsie or Toots or Sweetie or Honey or Doll.”
An out-of-work actor gets himself into quite a pickle when he auditions for a female role as a woman and snags the part. All’s well until he begins falling for one of his costars…and one of his male costars starts falling for him. It’s the love triangle to end all love triangles, and the acting is superb. Jessica Lange won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in this flick, and Dustin Hoffman is a joy to watch.
Available on: Paramount+, Hulu, fuboTV, Amazon Prime and Apple TV
40. Can’t Buy Me Love
Released: 1987
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I mean, he went from totally geek to totally chic!”
A high school nerd pays the popular girl to pretend to be his girlfriend for a month. What could go wrong? Oh, you know—everything. It’s a lesson about staying true to yourself and that you can find love with the person you least expect, and this flick made us fall for Patrick Dempsey for the first time, a few decades before Grey’s Anatomy.
Available on: Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu
41. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Released: 1961
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “You mustn’t give your heart to a wild thing. The more you do, the stronger they get, until they’re strong enough to run into the woods or fly into a tree. And then to a higher tree and then to the sky.”
Based on the classic book of the same name by Truman Capote, this beloved movie follows the intriguing Holly Golightly who has her sights set on marrying a millionaire to support her lavish tastes. Who she ends up falling for is decidedly different than whom she wants to marry. Despite our main character’s preoccupation with materialistic things, Audrey Hepburn is such a delight that we root for her anyway…and desperately want her to commit to a guy who is good for her for all of the right reasons.
Available on: Apple TV, Amazon Prime, DirecTV and Vudu
42. Notting Hill
Released: 1999
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.”
It’s pretty much the most epic Hollywood love story, except Notting Hill is set in London. The owner of a small bookshop has an unexpected run-in with one of film’s most in-demand actresses. The two fall in love, but their very different lives threaten to keep them apart. This is Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant at their rom-com best.
Available on: Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Vudu and Netflix
43. Sabrina
Released: 1995
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “More isn’t always better, Linus. Sometimes it’s just more.”
This film, starring Julia Ormond, Harrison Ford, and Greg Kinnear, is actually a reboot of a 1954 movie of the same name starring Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. A pair of wealthy brothers are reunited with the family chauffeur’s lovely daughter. Each brother hopes to win her affections, but only one man’s feelings are true.
Available on: Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu
44. Enchanted
Released: 2007
Rated: PG
Memorable Quote: “She told me it’s just beyond the meadows of joy and the valley of contentment. What is that all about?”
When a young woman named Giselle is plucked from fairy-tale life (literally), she finds herself dropped in the middle of New York City. With her prince determined to find her, Giselle stumbles upon another type of Prince Charming, of the real-world variety. You’ll find yourself laughing, cringing, singing, and swooning at this one. Are you a Disney die-hard? If so, see if you can answer these Disney trivia questions.
Available on: Vudu, Amazon Prime, DirecTV and Apple TV
45. Under the Tuscan Sun
Released: 2003
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “What are four walls, anyway? They are what they contain. The house protects the dreamer. Unthinkably good things can happen, even late in the game. It’s such a surprise.”
If you root for the underdog, then you’ll certainly root for Frances, who finds herself heartbroken and divorced seemingly out of nowhere. When a friend gifts her a tour of Tuscany, she makes an uncharacteristic life decision, and it opens her heart to wonderful new possibilities.
Available on: Amazon Prime, Vudu and Apple TV
46. 50 First Dates
Released: 2004
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “You erased me from your memories because you thought you were holding me back from having a full and happy life. But you made a mistake. Being with you is the only way I could have a full and happy life. You’re the girl of my dreams…and apparently, I’m the man of yours.”
Falling in love with your significant other all over again sounds really romantic, but it’s a lot of work for Henry Roth. The once committed bachelor falls for a woman with short-term memory loss. After every great date, she can’t remember it the next day and he must win her over again, like the time she wakes up next to him and screams bloody murder because she has no idea who he is. Serious bonus: This romantic comedy movie, which stars Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler at their most adorable, has an amazing soundtrack filled with ’80s cover songs.
Available on: Apple TV, Vudu, DirecTV and Amazon Prime
47. 27 Dresses
Released: 2008
Rated: PG-13
Memorable Quote: “Love is patient, love is kind, love means slowly losing your mind.”
“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride” is the theme of 27 Dresses, but main character Jane has had it. When her younger sister is set to marry her crush, it’s time to take matters into her own hands. Most of us have felt unlucky in love at some point in our lives, so this premise is pretty relatable, and the movie itself is irresistibly charming. If this sounds right up your alley, keep the laughs going with these wedding memes.
Available on: Vudu, fuboTV, Amazon Prime and Apple TV
48. Brown Sugar

Memorable Quote: “Simplicity provides a fine line between elegance and plainness.”
Should they, or shouldn’t they? That’s the question when childhood friends take a leap in the name of love and have to decide if this new foray into romantic waters is worth risking their friendship. What makes this movie so special is its incredible cast, including Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Queen Latifah, Boris Kodjoe, and even an appearance by Common. And the stellar soundtrack, which boasts an A-list roster of hip-hop and R&B tracks, makes us fall in love with the characters even more.

49. Crazy, Stupid, Love
Released: 2011

Memorable Quote: “I have loved her even when I hated her. Only married couples will understand that one.”
Can an old dog learn new tricks, particularly when it comes to dating? Reluctantly separated from his wife, Cal tries to learn a thing or two from womanizer Jacob about how to pick up women. We love the wittiness at play in this film, not to mention the all-star cast that includes Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, and Emma Stone.
