Your ideal cat companion
Looking to add a kitty to your world but uncertain how to claw through the many breeds to pick the right one for you? If you’ve determined that a cat is your best pet based on your zodiac sign, and you already know the power of accessing your zodiac elements to drive a decision, then it only makes sense to consider a cat breed that’s compatible with your zodiac sign.
“One can look to the stars to find a cat that matches one’s temperament, attitude and outlook,” says Stina Garbis, a professional psychic and astrologer. “You would like a breed of cat that matches you in every way, so why not include a little astrology in the mix to get a cat that is your mystical match?” Whether you’re looking to find one of the cutest cat breeds, you’re partial to black cats or you need a cat that gets along with dogs, you can look to your astrological sign to find a fabulous feline.
We curated a list of zodiac signs as cat breeds to help you find the purrfect kitty. And if you’ve ever wondered if cats can have their own zodiac sign, Garbis confirms that they can indeed—if you know their birthday. If you don’t, you can probably figure it out based on their personality. “A friendly, warm cat may be a Cancer or Leo, or a stubborn, snobby cat may be a Virgo,” says Garbis.

Aries (March 21–April 19): Bengal
Garbis says that a perfect match for the wild and fiery ram is the leopard-like Bengal cat. This feisty feline is athletic, wild, loving and sometimes lazy. Since Aries is a fire sign that craves adventure, love and trying new things, the Bengal cat is their ideal companion. “Aries would love a cat that’s a little bit different, easy to take care of, fun to watch and who adores them—and who is a little wild like them,” says Garbis. Whatever sign you are, knowing what your zodiac says about you can guide you to a kitty that will have you both purring.
Taurus (April 20–May 20): Scottish Fold
A lovely cat that pairs nicely with a Taurus would be the Scottish Fold, whose temperament is affectionate, cuddly and charming, says Garbis. She also notes that bulls appreciate the finest things in life and love to have a home outfitted with beautiful things, which makes the Scottish Fold’s affinity for comfort, ease and soft surroundings perfect for a Taurus. If you’re bullish about having a unique pet, go beyond zodiac signs as cat breeds and the 42 pedigree breeds recognized by the Cat Fanciers’ Association, and check out these rare cat breeds.
Gemini (May 21–June 20): Cornish Rex
Garbis tells us the Tortoiseshell, a split-face chimera cat that can be found among many breeds, including the Cornish Rex, reminds her of Gemini. Like Gemini, the Cornish Rex is active, playful and expressive. “Gemini, also known as the twins, can sometimes have two faces and two very different sides to their personality. They are highly intellectual, sometimes a little scattered and great conversationalists. The twins would enjoy a cat that is as playful as they are,” says Garbis. If you do go for a playful breed, pick up a few interactive cat toys to keep it properly entertained.
Cancer (June 21–July 22): Ragdoll
The perfect cat for a Cancer is the gentle, fluffy and sweet Ragdoll. The water sign Cancer is famous for being a big sweetheart—they love being at home and having people around them to shower with affection. “Ragdoll cats are so easy to love,” says Garbis. “They’re big and fluffy and would make a Cancer’s heart melt.” If you like the idea of having a cuddly ball of love at home, check out these other fluffy cat breeds too.
Leo (July 23–Aug. 22): Maine Coon
A natural choice for a Leo cat mate is the Maine Coon, according to Garbis. Like Leos, these cats have a huge personality, and they’re sociable, friendly and easygoing. “Leos like to be the center of attention. They are generous, have big hearts, love to love and like to hold court. Leos like to have that special edge that makes people exclaim, ‘Oooh!'” says Garbis, who notes that the Maine Coon perfectly reflects Leo’s attitude toward life. Whether Leos choose a small cat or a large cat, they can share the spotlight with this tabby.
Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22): Persian
Virgos can be detail oriented, which pairs perfectly with a Persian cat. This discriminating, quiet and fussy feline is Virgo’s spirit animal. Virgos are an earth sign and, thus, very down to earth. They’re super organized and give good advice. This sign also tends to be healthy and health conscious, liking to take care of themselves and others. Virgo is a perfect owner for a Persian cat that likes to love on its doting owner—the kind of furry meddler that might take a cat nap on your laptop while you’re working!
Libra (Sept. 23–Oct. 22): Siamese
For the fair sign of Libra, the Siamese cat is a match made in heaven. According to Garbis, people born under the sign of Libra appreciate beauty and balance, along with being great communicators and easy to love (think Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet). The beautiful, sleek and chatty Siamese cat would be a perfect match for a Libra. Speaking of well balanced, here’s how to relieve stress based on your zodiac sign.
Scorpio (Oct. 23–Nov. 21): Bombay
The curious, demanding and stalking black Bombay cat is perfect for those born under the sign of Scorpio, as Scorpios are mysterious, mystical and private. Garbis notes that if you cross a Scorpio you may regret it, as they’ve been known to hold a grudge, but if you get on their good side you’ll learn a lot from this keeper of secrets. She points out that the Bombay cat can be as dark and mysterious as its Scorpio owner, which just might explain some curious cat behavior.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21): American Shorthair
Garbis believes that Sagittarians will adore orange cats, whose hue emanates warmth and joy. She notes that the American Shorthair, including the orange tabby, is playful, easygoing and laid-back. “Sagittarius is a good-time, happy-go-lucky and go-with-the-flow sign. They’re easy to get along with and are always the life of the party,” says Garbis. “A funny orange cat would be their perfect match.” Did you know that along with considering zodiac signs as cat breeds, you can use zodiac signs to find your power color?
Capricorn (Dec. 22–Jan. 19): Serval
Capricorns will bond beautifully with a Serval cat, an intelligent, active and independent feline, according to Garbis. Capricorns are adventurous yet cautious, smart and practical. “If you need something done, give it to a Capricorn, as they are very dynamic and seem to work a million miles a minute. Capricorns can be helpful friends but also like their space, so they may enjoy a Serval cat that is as exotic and independent as they are,” notes Garbis. Do you know you can also use the power of the zodiac to delve into dating compatibility?
Aquarius (Jan. 20–Feb. 18): Sphynx
Garbis believes an Aquarius needs a cat as unique as they are, like a Sphynx, a feline that’s also friendly and energetic. Aquarians tend to think differently than others, according to Garbis, who describes water bearers as brilliant trendsetters, problem solvers and great friends. “Of course, they would get a cat that is unlike any other cat,” she adds, “because ‘untraditional’ is Aquarius’s middle name.”
Pisces (Feb. 19–March 20): Russian Blue
When considering zodiac signs as cat breeds, people born under the water sign of Pisces need a gray cat like the Russian Blue, a tabby that’s quiet, gentle and shy. Pisces is the kind of sign that might surprise you. Very kind and loving to others, they are also deep thinkers. Because they tend to be on the more emotional side and act based on their feelings, Pisces need a cat as sweet as they are, which makes the silky Russian Blue a perfect match, says Garbis.
