In 2021, I read a total of 15 books. That number has decreased significantly since then and I’ve been eager to read more books this year. But with work, wedding planning and life in general, I find it difficult to make it to the library (and return books on time) and splurge on physical copies. Thankfully, the e-reader solved all those issues and more.

Search, buy, borrow and download books straight to any of the various tablets with just a WiFi connection.

With 32GB of storage, the Kobo Libra 2 holds up to 24,000 e-books or 150 Kobo audiobooks. Kobo has a huge database of books for purchase and it’s also easy to transfer any .epub files to the device. Kobo Plus, a subscription plan, starts at $7.99 a month. You can also sync your local librarys OverDrive to check out books with your library card.

Appearance-wise, the Kobo Libra 2 mirrors the Amazon Kindle tablets. A black or white frame surrounds a seven-inch HD E Ink Carta 1200 touchscreen. The bezel juts out about two inches and is equipped with two buttons for one-handed access. In bed, the buttons really help me find a comfortable reading position, especially when I’m laying sideways.

Kobo Libra 2 features

When I first received the Kobo, I dove into the box and quickly peeled off the protective plastic from the screen. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it didnt require charging out of the box. With half of its 21-hour battery lift still intact, I explored its features.

The matte e-reader is compatible with Bluetooth wireless headphones or speakers for a full audiobook experience. Adjust the screen temperature to your liking with blue light reduction letting you read into the night. Switching to Dark Mode swaps the usual black text and white background to a black background with white text. You can also change the screen’s orientation from portrait to landscape to upside down (or lock it in place for no movement).

Its also super light at 0.37 grams and small enough to stow in a purse or backpack. Reading in the tub or at the pool? The e-reader is fully waterproof for up to 60 minutes in up to two meters of water. Amazon and Etsy also carry protective cases.

How I tested it

On the home screen is a series of buckets to find your next read. I shifted between Recommended and Related Reads before remembering I could sync up my library card to OverDrive. I scrolled hundreds of titles between dozens of interesting categories like Mental Health Awareness, Short Reads for a Long Weekend and “Great Reads Without The Wait” before settling on A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.

For my second read of the year (I know, disgraceful), it was a long one. But all 1,800 pages just compress into 0.37 grams. Kobo also gives you an entire statistical analysis of the book. I could see how many pages were left, what percentage of the book Id read, how many minutes until the next chapter and how many hours of reading left of the book. I found myself racing that estimated time as if it was the GPS ETA in my car.

Kobo also lets you change the font and font size, line spacing and margins while you read. Im the type of reader who likes to underline impactful sentences and I worried I couldnt do that on my e-reader. But annotating is relatively easy: just hold down a word and drag until a highlight appears. It’s a little wonky and lags, so patience is key.

Turn the pages by tapping on the screen’s edge or by pressing the up/down buttons on the bezel. Another thing I love about the Kobo Libra 2 is that I can instantly get a words definition. A dictionary entry pops up by holding down a word, a feature that doesnt even require WiFi (great for on-the-go!).

Ive taken my e-reader on road trips, to the beach, to the pool and on a camping trip. The battery lasts weeks between charges and a full charge takes just a few hours. My inner child is thrilled to read in the dark again, except this time I have no need for a flashlight or reading light under the covers. The Libra 2s screen lights up enough for me to read into the night and I can adjust it to my liking.

The audiobooks are also a nice feature for audio-bibliophiles, but it’s only compatible with Kobo audiobooks. Change the narration speed, keep listening if the screen is off and use your headphones’ buttons to play and pause. I don’t see myself using the audiobook feature (I’m much more visual than auditory anyway), but if I did, I’d rather listen on my phone.

Another note is the Libra 2’s sleep mode. When turned off, the screen says Sleeping with the option to display the cover of whichever book Im reading, along with the percentage read and how many hours to go. At night the screen dims significantly, but I wish there was a way to turn off the screen completely.

While my dad and brother usually take over the tent assembly, I was able to build the Core Instant tent in eight minutes with little to no help. It’s one of the best camping tents for any age or experience level.

What is the Core 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent?

The Core instant tent has all of its components built in. What I mean is that there are no detached poles to connect and stick through, a feature that drew me in. It measures about 6 feet tall, enough for me to stand up and move around in. Four windows on the sides and front allow for ventilation, and the ceiling has the same netting.

According to the brand, you can set up the tent in less than a minute. First-timers and camping beginners may need longer than 60 seconds, but from my experience, its the easiest tent Ive put up in years.

Core 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent features

Included with the kit is the lime green and grey tent with pre-attached poles, a rainfly with attached guylines, a wall organizer, a gear loft, tent stakes and a carrying bag. It technically sleeps six inside its 9-by-11-foot surface. But from my experience, three people and some camping gear would fit perfectly (I tested it with my sister).

The best feature of the tent is its pre-attached poles. Almost everything you need is connected to the tent itself. The exterior has H2O Block technology to repel water. Two air intake vents near the bottom of the tent allow for extra ventilation from the ground. Plus, the ceiling has mesh panels for stale air to escape.

Inner organization pouches let you store gear on the tent’s walls and ceiling. An attached mat also serves as a doormat, but I used a piece of cardboard packaging instead as a camping hack.

How I tested it

Over the 4th of July weekend, my family took a trip to our campsite and I was eager to whip out my tent. I kept it in the cardboard box it was shipped in until it was time to set it up. I admit that I watched a set-up demonstration video prior to the trip, so I felt pretty prepared for the task.

Quick Setup

Before even unzipping the carrying case, I laid down a medium-sized tarp to serve as the base for the tent. Once the equipment was out of its storage, I laid the tent on the tarp and set aside the stakes, pouches and rainfly.

Because everything is already attached, save for the stakes and rainfly, all you need to do is start unfolding. The tent is folded like the paper fortune tellers you mightve seen in elementary or middle school. Once the four corners were untucked and aligned to the tarp, I just pulled each pole until I heard a click.

With the tent popped up, the only extra step is to secure the loops into the ground with the included stakes. Some reviewers suggest investing in stronger stakes for more security. All in all, it took about 8 minutes to assemble. (It would’ve been faster if I hadn’t stopped to inspect my work after each step.)

Rain Test

As luck would have it, it started to pour rain about half an hour after I had assembled the tent. Being that I was surrounded by my stubborn aunts and uncles, they all maintained that I should put a tarp over the tent to prevent water from leaking in. Ever determined to achieve a thorough test, I insisted that the fabric and rainfly would hold up in the rain.

After about an hour of steady rain, I stepped into the tent to inspect the fabric (secretly hoping for the best). The ground and walls were as dry as can be, and I proudly announced to my family that not a drop of water had made it in.

Comfort Level

My sister and I set up air mattresses and our bags and still had plenty of room. While its hard to believe six people could fit inside (maybe if half were children), its still quite spacious. The organization pouches are handy, and we were able to hang a flashlight from a hook in the ceiling. Overnight, the ventilated windows allowed for a cool breeze. Just keep in mind that someone walking by will be able to see inside.

It didnt rain again, and temperatures were steady in the 80s. After the weekend, I took down the tent by myself with relative ease. The tarp underneath had small puddles, but overall, the tent held up great. My biggest accomplishment was getting every bit of the tent back in the carrying case without any hiccups. It folds right back up! That means less time stressing and more time doing fun camp activities.

I tested the cult-favorite Mini Weekender on a recent trip to Mexico and a weekend camping trip. Even after just a month of use, I can see why its so popular for international and domestic flights and road trips alike.

Another complaint I have is how easily the bags polyester material scuffs. Between the airports security machine, taxi trunks and just the regular floors, my bag looked like it could use a bath as much as me after a long travel day. I may need to brush up on how to get rid of stains.

The nail gel comes in a bottle just like regular nail polish with about half an ounce of product to work with. If you apply two coats weekly, it should last a while. Furthermore, the light pink tint gives your nails the clean girl look. If used as a top coat on another polish color, the tint could affect the final look, so keep that in mind.

How I tested it

I rarely wear regular nail polish, but if I do, I pair it with a UV-drying gel base and top coat for extra strength. Part of the reason is that my nails crack and chip easily thanks to all the acetone that has weakened my nails over time. Regular polish doesnt offer me the strength of gel or dip powder, so I tend to avoid it.

When applying nail polish, its important to remember to cap the edges (making sure the entire edge of the nail is coated, not just the top surface). Otherwise, the nail polish lifts and peels, as pointed out by some reviewers.

The box also states that you can recoat over dry Pink Armor at any time but should remove it once weekly with nail polish remover. I used the same combination for three of my reapplications: two coats of Pink Armor, two coats of Tulle Much and a final coat of Pink Armor. Throughout my testing period, I could feel the extra protection on my nails.
