Big Changes Are Coming to McDonald’s Burgers—Here’s What We Know

Some McDonald's classics are getting a new and improved makeover.

Does anything say McDonald’s more than a Big Mac? I mean, seriously, there’s a reason it’s the second bestselling McDonald’s menu item, only falling behind some insanely addicting McDonald’s fries.

However, the Big Mac we all know and love is about to change. That’s right, McDonald’s Big Macs—along with some other classic McDonald’s burger menu items—are due for a makeover.

Not to worry, though. McDonald’s confirms they’re “about to make our [their] classic burgers even better” than they already are. Here’s what you can expect from the new burgers.

How are McDonald’s burgers changing?

Customers can anticipate changes to their Big Macs, McDouble burgers, classic Cheeseburgers, Double Cheeseburgers and Hamburgers. Specifically, the chain is “cooking up” improvements to its buns, cheese, onions and Big Mac sauce.

According to a McDonald’s press release, the changes will include freshly toasted, golden brown “softer, pillowy buns,” as well as “perfectly melted cheese,” a juicier, caramelized flavor from white onions and more Big Mac sauce.

The changes come from the McDonald’s culinary team who have found that small changes make an impactful difference. The changes include “hotter, meltier cheese” and adjusting grill settings for a higher quality sear.

The result? Burgers so tempting they’ve “caught the attention of McDonaldland’s resident mischief-maker, the Hamburglar.” Along with the improved burgers, the beloved icon is also making a comeback.

When will the new burgers be available?

Customers won’t have to wait long to enjoy these new and improved burgers. In fact, the updated burgers have already successfully entered international markets in countries like Australia, Canada and Belgium.

As for the United States, McDonald’s has rolled out the tweaked burgers across several West Coast cities. These include Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Boise, Tucson and more. For the rest of the country, the burger improvements will be available in McDonald’s nationwide by 2024.
